V’s for the vice our collective balls are in O my goodness and my stars L-O-V-E’s another way to say C: compassion, neither near nor far A is always on my mind, not just some of the time N’s the never-ending notion that we’ll be set loose Oooooo Let’s not tempt the supervolcano

Utah's Dime 03:00
Paging Doc Wan I’d say farewell, but you just stepped in With your three lab assistants Their knowledge of the world outside the Beehive State Is beginner at best It’s coming out in weird ways Oh, did we drink You took one look at my Otter Box and said, “I’ve just the thing” Now I’m the proud owner of a seafoam green phone case Your university’s per diem took the hit It’s coming out in weird ways

Sexy May I 02:37
Do you read? Not just books, but other people’s faces? Are you prepared to lie in their good graces? Will you maintain whatever debts incur were kismet? And does it sting to walk that honey past a bees’ nest? Just once At last, you’d love to eat crow You’re the last to tell and the first to know Au naturel, no epilogue Only prelude And you dispel those with a detestable attitude Just once At last, you’d love to eat crow You’re the last to tell and the first to know

Judy Greer 03:01
I can never say just what I’m trying to say Your face, your eyes make me so Carry all my problems from my apartment to the J And listen to sad songs as I go Out across the water and underground These thoughts drown out the city with their solemn sound Say goodbye to these dour messages ‘Cause it’s the last time I can never say just what I’m trying to say Your face, your eyes make me so Carry all my problems from my apartment to the J And listen to sad songs as I go Say goodbye to these dour messages ‘Cause it’s the last time I can never say just what I’m trying to say

An invocation from the cold Always chilly on the grid Great distances I’m told Effortlessly made amid You type goodnight but that don’t mean you kiss it And it just ain’t the same thing How hard is it to save money on a rental car? A ticket for the train? You’re bedding from afar And flesh is flesh, but underneath that wire mesh, What’s left? Upon reentry to the game Away from every last slum You’re relying on your brain Not loving with your thumbs No more right or left or flip a coin or fingers crossed

For a third of life, our eyes are closed But you can’t see what you’re sleeping away Putting off a world, a line long towed An eternity you can conjure today Harmony and bliss Swear to gee whiz you won’t be remiss if you just trust Get some shuteye but don’t tuck yourself in It ain’t the charmed life But try it out and yours will be rife with angel dust All while sitting still, Jack’s just helping Good advice on a leaf, a processed bark A crutch, a lark you can blame it on in the end Harmony and bliss Swear to gee whiz you won’t be remiss if you just trust Get some shuteye but don’t tuck yourself in It ain’t the charmed life But try it out and yours will be rife with angel dust All while sitting still, Jack’s just helping

Found myself with more than one place to be A problem one wants to have Happy hour ‘til ten One block from the train Thought it was pretend Venue was all cozy Music had me smiling Or maybe it was your friend Thought I’d step out to talk to my friends Behind their cigs and pleasantries What did arise from the smoke? I don’t know Reentered in slow-mo Happy hour ‘til ten One block from the train Thought it was pretend Venue was all cozy Music had me smiling Or maybe it was your friend

Extended your hand but I’m hesitant Left a wet kiss on its back You’re old enough to be president And you’ll make your own party If I nod my head like you need me to You’ll go on talking And if I play dead Will you recognize me? Your platform is carried on tattered shoes Fast food that will feed a nation Frequent trips to the bathroom Where you’ll make your own party If I nod my head like you need me to You’ll go on talking And if I play dead Will you recognize me?

Sweet Babboo 02:30
And if you feel that you are being followed Don’t think to glance over your shoulder It’s the thrill of the chase, the way I stalk my prey Tell mom and dad I’m coming over Some chubby cherub had his arrow aimed at me You can’t argue with a god’s accuracy Dropped a valentine in everybody’s box but mine Soon I’ll make you lack more than decency Now and forever you will be my sweet babboo

Who said, “Ambitions are ambitions and then you’re dead”? You’re young Undiscovered, so it’s still fun Twiddle your fingers Uncork the wine A tree Why it was planted, confounds me And then it grew Best years are still ahead of you Momentum dwindles What can I say? Here’s a quick one while she’s in a bad way A bad way

Toy Newkirk 08:01
You take the sidewalk I’ll take the road And in the silent parts No one will know Mind over matter Pearls cast before swine All will resolve in time

Safety 05:31
Bottle fed ipecac Turned around so I could give Rudy a snack I’m keeping up appearances for someone who’s seen me naked Makes no sense but I press on Donner l'exemple à mon cousin Ten letters in depression Not one I sent made it past your lawn Safety first It’s found a way to last Call me a hearse I’m next up at bat Exercising caution in a padded room Makes no sense but I press on Donner l'exemple à mon cousin Ten letters in depression Not one I sent made it past your lawn

about

Guess it was somewhere in 2017, temping for OXO, slapping color-coded stickers on kitchenware for an upcoming sample sale in an unlit, dank storage space, head leaky with allergies, staring out at Hudson Yards. Listened nearly exclusively to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Something/Anything, Talking Book; i.e. stuff that would lift me up outta the present situation. Got me to thinking, "What if I made an album like these? Poppy, strong... safe?"

Tongue in cheek, per that last descriptor. But still envisioned all at once from that notion: Safety, by the aggressively accessible SV. I set out with that challenge in mind; this would be my version of a pop record. You can hear that pretty clearly on the first half, but soon enough that method fell away from me. Unsure of what won out in the end, and certainly unsure of my opinion on Safety. But it's yours that matters.

My love to the SVies.
