about

"Now I can rest in peace. After all, walking the Earth as a living corpse is probably in rather questionable taste. Do come and visit any time. And remember, always read the small print before you buy. And beware of cheap imitations. Bye bye, my dear." - Geraldine McEwan in Not Without My Handbag, 1993

When I was much younger, I would accompany my father and the basketball team he coached to away-games at various schools in their division. Instead of watching the games, I would spend most of the time exploring the hallways of these unfamiliar schools. I'll never forget the instance of seeing a mural painted on a wall bearing a depiction of the Homestead Strike. A man lay long dead on the ground with his entrails spilling out of his guts next to a painted sign of protest that read, "Down with the Pinkerton scabs!" I felt the way any child does when they see something on television that's exceeding of their maturity level, except this wasn't television. This was something that hundreds of high schoolers passed by on the way to their lockers everyday. As if school isn't hard enough as it is...

Anyways, that's the story behind the last song. The rest have words; read into them as you wish. One million thanks to Peter and Tyler for working their mastering magic on this one and Blake for capturing my decent side. Thank you so much, SVies. The next one is already in the works.

Track Name: Lacrimimosa
Defiled, debased, debunked, and depraved
D plus for Mr. and Ms. Behave

We're given to love and all the above
And when you're defeated, you're really you
We're afraid to love; afraid to trust
And when we're defeated, we're really us
Track Name: Soundcheck Song
This just in: Best New Music from mom
"It's lovely, but why does it have to sound so sad?"
PopMatters, do I matter to you?
Give it a chance, my subjects are romance and zipper blues

7.8, that's your fate
Good, bad, and ugly

Yearn for the moment when someone asks to hear the deep cuts
These are all the deep cuts
Consequence of Sound, I'm hanging around
Noisey, enjoy me

Strong 4 to a light 5
Pitchfork, I've arrived
Track Name: It's Often Said
We've always known
Sucret suture
For surgery
Can you be so sure?
It's often said
Cage and Arquette
Bring out their dead

How are you and the one you're into?
You'd like to make love to
She'd love to make like to you too

And on it goes
Freewheel across time
Ask how to feel
Feel just fine
It's often said
Dafoe and Keitel
Tempt Christ on my watch
I'll never tell

How are you and the one you're into?
You'd like to make love to
She'd love to make like to you too
Track Name: Still Jim Thome to Me
Goodbye to the big C
According to recent scans
And hell, that reminds me
You might not S-W-I-M
That's you might not "swim," maybe
Maybe just up to your shins, maybe
Useless trips to Ithaca and Syracuse
There's no such thing as Oneonta blues

Picked up a book colored blue and pink
Said, "She dies at the end and what comes before stinks"
We're 44 miles and change from Dover
Have you read Walker Percy's The Moviegoer?
What's this got to do with getting laid?
The code's in Morse and the painting is Kinkade
Well, everybody's talking about the new DH
But he's still Jim Thome to me
Track Name: Members-Only Jacket
Wrote a note to S. Claus, my apologies
Dreamt of orange groves and tall-ass palm trees
Steal the teacher's answer key
Tropic of Key Largo, where the breeze blows

Plead the case, consider dual ideologies
In love with your professor of psychology
Quit the high school's tennis team
'Cause you forgot your racket, your members-only jacket
Track Name: I'm Destroying Weekly
Took to killing ants with a magnifying glass
A beam from that ball of gas melted a thorax

I'm destroying weekly and you're obliged to know
Intentions meant to forebode

Tripping on a blade of grass face first into morning
She's fast asleep, I'm barely yawning

I'm destroying weekly and you're obliged to know
Intentions meant to forebode
Track Name: Lovejoy's Daughter
1, 2, 3, 4

Keep my digits close, call my phone, and call it a hunch
Your paint-smeared smock looks as if René Magritte lost his lunch
Now let's say, Tuesday - what are your plans?
If you keep me on a short leash, I understand

I'll do all your chores, if you'll have me (for a moment)

Tried my luck at a love tester, it claimed I was a clam
So I exited that Fuddruckers not giving half a damn
It's alluring, the ignoring, to feel you reject
So keep me short leashed, I know what to expect

I'll do all your chores, if you'll have me (for a moment)
Track Name: Forgot the Lure
Set the treadmill on to 'slow'
Counter's stained with hot cocoa
Edge of town's vernacular
Sitting in the back, you were

Lazy by the summer, columbine l'hiver
Burden of Fort Sumner, never mine to bear
Now it's cold and commensurate
Celibate, too
CC the teeth and CEO, 'cause we know

Getting used to nine to five
Morning to midnight, dead to alive
Tackle box epicurean
Still you forgot the lure again

Lazy by the summer, columbine l'hiver
Burden of Fort Sumner, never mine to bear
Now it's cold and commensurate
Celibate, too
CC the teeth and CEO, 'cause we know

You'll never get away from this or me
Track Name: About the House Quietly
Never been a pretty crier, so I hope the news is good soon
You can nip this bullshit with a capital B right in the bud
Acumen that I admire, they made a permanent northpaw out of you
I hope this is up your avenue or in your ballpark
Worry's in my line of country and naturally the reason we're crepuscular
Bats that never rest

And it explains why
We move through the night softly
And about the house quietly
Doc, please give me
A reason not to cope with leaving

When I'm there, I swear, I'll take A Moveable Feast out east
Try to see what's in it that you had to've seen
Go back to my youth, prior to strife, we turn on NatGeo
We see old women, once little girls, and the perils of Chinese feet binding
What's the gown done to you? Doc, give this man a second to breathe
I heard over the phone unease

And it explains why
We move through the night softly
And about the house quietly
Doc, please give me
A reason not to cope with leaving

We move through the night softly
And about the house quietly
Doc, please give me
A reason not to think he's leaving
Track Name: Gram G
Trenchfoot entrenched in soot
Inhaled the stench of the sewer
Dilly dally deconstruct
Casualties, there could've been fewer

And nuance ate my homework
Subsequently threw it back up
Betty tries for a wall twerk
Fallen and can't get up

Heartbreak in absentia
Posthumous joie de vivre
Hip break, come on, who sent ya?
Your name's not on the guest list, so leave

And nuance ate my homework
Subsequently threw it back up
Betty tries for a wall twerk
Fallen and can't get up
Track Name: No Peeking
Busy tooth on the fritz, oh goodness
My mood ring reads black, it's as black as death
If you can dream it, you can damn it to hell
If you're a resident of heaven, it's just as well

Here are all the rules:
You snooze, you lose
Blacktop's safe
And above all, no peeking
The other team builds a fort of snow
Be a good sport and accept the advice you haven't been seeking

Asthma attack due to the miasma
In this town, we donate plasma
Coach holds up, or rather, wields a bag; a duffle bag
Syllabus week, silly, buy you a drink

Here are all the rules:
You snooze, you lose
Blacktop's safe
And above all, no peeking
The other team builds a fort of snow
Be a good sport and accept the advice you haven't been seeking
